Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has been remanded to the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by the Ikeja Special Offences Court. Emefiele, along with co-defendant Henry Isioma Omole, faced charges of alleged abuse of office and misallocation of funds totaling $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.

Appearing before Justice Rahman Oshodi, Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the 26-count charges dated April 3, 2024. His lawyer requested bail on self-recognizance, citing Emefiele’s previous bail in Abuja, and urged bail extension for Omole.

While the prosecution did not oppose the bail applications, Justice Oshodi decided to remand Emefiele in EFCC custody and Omole in Ikoyi Correctional Centre. The court adjourned the case to April 11 for ruling on bail applications and trial commencement.
