The Nigerian federal government has disclosed progress in consultations regarding the reopening of the nation’s land borders with neighbouring countries. Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, revealed ongoing discussions with counterparts from Niger and Benin Republics to address issues that led to the closure of the borders.

Adeniyi emphasized the importance of ensuring that the circumstances that necessitated the border closure do not recur. He expressed satisfaction with the steady progress being made in resolving these matters through high-level consultations and engagements with stakeholders.

The objective is to establish secure and efficient borders, with the deployment of the National Single Window Project at ports and border stations expected to enhance security and operational efficiency. Adeniyi commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to securing Nigeria’s economy, particularly through initiatives like the National Single Window Project.

The National Single Window Project, seen as a coordinated border management system, aims to streamline processes and improve collaboration among relevant agencies. Adeniyi praised President Tinubu’s dedication to the project’s implementation, highlighting his strong will and commitment as critical factors for its success.
