Intrigues Surrounding PDP’s NEC Meeting and Chairmanship Debate
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is poised for a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, with Minister Nyesom Wike allegedly rallying support to retain Umar Damagum as the National Chairman. The meeting, scheduled for Thursday, has sparked divisions among PDP governors, with some advocating for Damagum’s replacement by a candidate from the North Central zone.

While the Board of Trustees Chairman, Dr. Adolphus Wabara, exudes confidence in the party’s ability to weather the storm and rebound stronger, tensions within the party persist. Wabara anticipates a peaceful resolution of grievances during the NEC meeting.

Meanwhile, leaders from the North Central zone have endorsed Senator Gabriel Suswam for the chairmanship position, citing the need to complete the zone’s tenure following the suspension of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu. However, the meeting’s agenda remains focused on Damagum’s tenure, with debates over his replacement dominating discussions.

The endorsement of Suswam by North Central stakeholders underscores the complexity of the chairmanship debate, with regional interests intersecting party dynamics. As the PDP navigates these challenges, the outcome of the NEC meeting is awaited to determine the party’s direction moving forward.
