Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has confirmed he is considering leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2026 governorship election, following weeks of speculation about a potential switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or another political platform.
In a statement released Saturday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke revealed that he is actively consulting with political stakeholders at both state and national levels before making a final decision.
The confirmation came during a strategic meeting with the Osun PDP leadership caucus, held at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo. Attendees included key figures from across the party structure—ranging from the state’s deputy governor to National Assembly members, special advisers, cabinet officials, and elders.
Following an extensive briefing and deliberation, the PDP caucus passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Governor Adeleke, pledging to support him in whatever political direction he chooses.
“The Osun PDP leadership resolved to follow Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke wherever he goes,” the official communiqué read.
The party leaders praised Adeleke’s leadership style, noting that his performance in office had strengthened grassroots support. They further encouraged him to intensify consultations before formalizing any decision on defection.

Although no official declaration has been made on the party Adeleke may defect to, insiders suggest APC is a strong possibility. Political analysts view the governor’s potential move as a critical reshaping of Osun State’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 governorship race.
Adeleke, elected under the PDP platform in 2022, has continued to attract attention for his development-driven agenda and growing political influence in the Southwest region.
