Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has pledged to rid the state of adulterated products, ensuring that consumers are protected from harmful goods. This commitment was made during the 2025 World Consumer Rights Day celebration, organized by the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) at Ikeja.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized Lagos State’s commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and promoting sustainable practices that contribute to a healthier and safer society. He remarked that the event was a reminder of the significant role consumers play in the economy, while also highlighting the government’s responsibility in protecting their rights.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hudeyin, Sanwo-Olu commended LASCOPA for its continuous efforts in advocating for fair business practices and consumer protection. He reaffirmed that consumer welfare is a priority for his administration, particularly under the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus framework, which focuses on critical governance areas such as health, environment, and economic development.

The governor also stressed the importance of empowering consumers with knowledge to make environmentally responsible choices without compromising their basic rights. Additionally, he noted the establishment of the Lagos State Carbon Registry, aimed at tracking and reducing carbon emissions across various sectors.

Mrs. Folashade Kaosarat Ambrose, Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, also highlighted the essential role consumers play in shaping markets, driving innovation, and influencing business practices. She emphasized the need for government, businesses, and civil society to collaborate in transitioning to a more sustainable future, ensuring that the benefits reach all sectors of society.

Ambrose urged businesses to adopt ethical, sustainable practices, reduce waste, and offer eco-friendly products at fair prices. She called for policies supporting green innovation and the protection of consumer rights, advocating for regulatory frameworks that promote responsible business conduct.

LASCOPA’s General Manager/CEO, Mr. Afolabi Solebo, reiterated the agency’s dedication to advocating for consumer rights. He assured that under Governor Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, LASCOPA would continue to empower consumers and promote responsible consumption that benefits both people and the planet.
