The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has officially nominated Goodluck Chidiebere Egwu, the party’s Zonal Youth Leader, as the replacement for the recently expelled South East National Vice Chairman, Ali Odefa. This decision follows a series of anti-party activities by Odefa, leading to his expulsion.
In a formal letter addressed to the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Illiya Damagun, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the party cited Odefa’s suspension and eventual expulsion as the basis for nominating Egwu. The letter, which was signed by prominent party members in Ebonyi State, calls for the swift approval of Egwu’s nomination.
A Federal High Court in Abakaliki had earlier upheld the suspension of Odefa by the Ward Executive of PDP’s Oguduokwor Ward in Onicha Local Government Area (LGA). Following his suspension, the Disciplinary Committee of the Oguduokwor Ward recommended Odefa’s expulsion after an internal review of allegations against him. On December 12, 2024, the Oguduokwor Ward Executives announced the formal expulsion of Odefa.
In response to the expulsion, PDP leaders in Ebonyi State have fully endorsed Egwu’s nomination. The letter of nomination was signed by key party figures including Chief Onwe S. Onwe (former Acting National Secretary), Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu (2023 Deputy Governorship Candidate), Chief John Igboke (former Deputy National Youth Leader), and others. The nomination has been submitted to the Acting National Chairman of PDP, the National Secretary, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and several other influential members of the party.
With this nomination, the PDP hopes to reinforce its leadership in the region and ensure strong representation in the party’s affairs.
