Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to remain patient as the country grapples with economic challenges, including rising living costs and market instability. Speaking during the Senate’s plenary session on Tuesday, Akpabio addressed the pressing economic issues and assured citizens that the National Assembly is committed to alleviating their burdens.
Akpabio highlighted the importance of lawmakers connecting with their constituents during their seven-week recess, stating that the struggles of the people have not gone unnoticed. He emphasized the Senate’s dedication to addressing these concerns with “urgency and compassion.”
Acknowledging the economic pressures of inflation and an unpredictable market, Akpabio also praised recent advancements in agriculture and infrastructure, crediting President Bola Tinubu’s administration for these gains. However, he cautioned that these achievements should not overshadow the ongoing security challenges facing the country.
“The recent surge in insecurity is a clarion call for us to intensify efforts in crafting laws and taking decisive actions to protect our communities,” Akpabio said.
He encouraged senators to maintain their sense of duty and patriotism, reminding them of their responsibility to serve the people and restore their trust. Akpabio also stressed the importance of collaboration with the executive branch to ensure the tangible benefits of good governance reach all Nigerians.
In his closing remarks, Akpabio called on lawmakers to uphold transparency and accountability in their legislative work, assuring Nigerians that their grievances will be heard and addressed within the Senate.
