APC Pledges Support for Edo State Governor-Elect, Rejects Claims of Interference

The All-Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed its commitment to fully support the newly elected governor of Edo State, promising not to interfere with his ability to govern effectively. This reassurance was provided by Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Tuesday.

Morka emphasized that the party’s primary focus is on the welfare of Edo State citizens, rather than individual interests, assuring that there will be no “Godfather” hindering the governor’s governance. He noted, “We didn’t win Edo State to obstruct the new governor. We will allow him to govern in the best interests of the people.”

Morka added that the APC’s unity during the elections, particularly after the primaries, was instrumental in the party’s victory. He commended the commitment of all party members, even those who initially opposed the chosen candidate during the primaries, for rallying behind the flagbearer and ensuring a successful outcome.

Response to Peter Obi’s Criticism

In response to Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who criticized the Edo election results on his X account, Morka dismissed Obi’s comments as inconsequential. Obi had labeled the election a case of “state capture” and an undermining of democratic processes, but Morka described Obi as a “serial complainer” who refuses to accept any election result that doesn’t favor him.

“Peter Obi is a serial complainer. He will not accept the result of any election that is not in his favor,” Morka said, pointing out that Obi was neither a candidate nor a voter in the Edo election, making his opinions irrelevant.

APC Calls for Evidence from Opponents

Morka also addressed concerns raised by Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata and PDP’s Asue Ighodalo about the election’s fairness. He acknowledged their right to question the results but challenged them to provide concrete evidence in court. “If they are not satisfied with the outcome, they must go to court and present credible evidence,” Morka stated, adding that the APC is prepared to meet them in court to defend the election’s integrity.
