The National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has made a bold statement, claiming the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is now irrelevant in Nigerian politics. Speaking during the inauguration of a newly renovated party office in Katsina State, Kwankwaso described the PDP as a party that has lost its focus and no longer holds influence.
According to Kwankwaso, “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is already dead because they have deviated from their original principles.” He further explained that he, along with others, left the PDP because the party had “gone out of line.”
Kwankwaso expressed confidence that his party, the NNPP, would be a formidable contender in the 2027 elections, aiming for the presidency and state-level victories. He also warned Nigerians not to be swayed by financial gifts or favors in future elections.
Meanwhile, the PDP dismissed Kwankwaso’s claims, with National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba labeling the former Kano State governor as “inconsequential” in the current political landscape. Ologunagba pointed out that the NNPP, which Kwankwaso leads, has little influence, only controlling one state.
The PDP spokesperson criticized Kwankwaso’s remarks, accusing him of selfishness. “It is unfortunate that Senator Kwankwaso is more concerned with his ambition to become president while millions of Nigerians are suffering under the harsh economic conditions caused by the APC government,” Ologunagba said.
He further highlighted the PDP’s strong presence across the country, with 13 governors and numerous lawmakers, dismissing Kwankwaso’s assertions about the party’s demise.
Katsina State NNPP Chairman, Armaya’u Abdulkadir, also stressed the importance of educating the electorate on the party’s new logo, which symbolizes education for all, a key agenda of Kwankwaso’s leadership.
