The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has categorically denied any involvement in the allegeland dispute between Ms. Bilikisu Ishaqu Aliyu and the Yesufu family. The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) maintains its stance as a professional and disciplined organization, as stated by Force Spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
In a statement, Adejobi addressed the recent allegations against the IGP, expressing amusement and emphasizing the need to clarify these unfounded claims. He noted that the allegations, which surfaced in a publication by AIT on July 10, 2024, titled “Yesufu Family Seeks Justice As Police Authorities Fail to Investigate Bilikisu Ishaqu,” misrepresented the facts and misled the public.
Adejobi emphasized that the role of the NPF is to maintain law and order and ensure public safety, not to meddle in civil disputes unless there are clear criminal elements involved. He reiterated that dragging the IGP into such civil matters is inappropriate and misleading.
Furthermore, Adejobi dismissed assertions of a conflict between the NPF and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as baseless and laughable. He highlighted the cooperative and professional relationship between the two agencies, ensuring that there are no conflicts on this or any other matter.
He urged the parties involved in the land dispute to follow proper channels if they seek the intervention of the IGP, rather than resorting to media blackmail or attempting to malign the IGP’s reputation. The NPF remains open to addressing legitimate concerns and providing assistance when proper procedures are followed.
Adejobi called on the public to disregard the unfounded claims circulating in the media and to continue seeking police intervention on issues capable of triggering crises and violence. He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to promoting peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
