Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has taken legal action against the Kaduna House of Assembly, alleging a violation of his fundamental human rights. The lawsuit, filed at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, asserts that El-Rufai was denied a fair hearing during the House of Assembly’s investigation into allegations of misusing public funds and money laundering during his tenure from 2015 to 2023.

The Kaduna House of Assembly had previously constituted a 13-man ad-hoc committee to probe loans, grants, and project implementations under El-Rufai’s administration. The committee’s findings, which were adopted by the assembly, implicated El-Rufai and several former commissioners for alleged corruption in contract awards and management of both domestic and foreign loans.

El-Rufai, along with former members of his cabinet, is seeking judicial redress to challenge the findings and the process of the investigation, arguing that his rights to a fair hearing were violated. The case underscores ongoing legal battles and political tensions surrounding accountability and governance in Kaduna State.
