Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, addressed both chambers of the National Assembly, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration among federal lawmakers regardless of political differences. His speech, delivered during a joint session marking 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria, lasted approximately 27 minutes.

President Tinubu urged lawmakers to work together to strengthen the institution of parliament and contribute to the nation’s development. He emphasized that the responsibility of building a glorious future for Nigeria lies with its citizens, highlighting the significance of domestic efforts over foreign aid or support.

In his address, President Tinubu encouraged lawmakers to prioritize national interests and work towards bequeathing a prosperous future to future generations. Additionally, he announced his intention to submit the budget for either 2024 or a supplementary budget to the National Assembly, although clarity on the specific budget year was not provided.

Subsequently, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, clarified that the National Assembly would await the President’s request for a supplementary budget for 2024, indicating readiness to consider and deliberate on the financial proposal.
