Kano Emirate: Emir Sanusi II Returns to Palace Amid Tensions
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The reinstated Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has officially returned to the Kano Emir’s Palace, Gidan Rumfa, holding his first traditional court session (Zaman Fada) amidst council members and district heads.

Emir Sanusi II has resumed his duties at Gidan Rumfa Palace, while the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, has moved into the second emir’s palace, Gidan Nasarawa, in the same metropolis. This has resulted in a unique situation with both palaces being occupied.

Emir Sanusi II appeared in full traditional regalia to perform his first function at the Emir’s house at Kofar Kudu. Meanwhile, security chiefs held a meeting at the Governor’s office with the Chief of Staff, Shehu Sagagi. Governor Abba Yusuf and his deputy relocated to the Emir’s Palace in solidarity with the reinstated Emir.

State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Husaini Gumel, and other security operatives continued their meetings at the police headquarters, highlighting the critical nature of the situation.

Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo accused the National Security Adviser (NSA) of facilitating the return of the deposed Emir to Kano. He stated, “The National Security Adviser provided two jets to bring the dethroned Emir to Kano and to the palace. We have not understood their intention.”

The joint security operation in Kano has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order. The police, military, and other security agencies are collaborating to prevent any disruption. Commissioner Gumel warned against attempts to destabilize the state, emphasizing the readiness of security forces to uphold the law.

The return of Emir Sanusi II and the presence of deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero in another palace have created a complex situation in Kano. Security forces remain vigilant to ensure stability and prevent conflicts as the state navigates this period of transition. The leadership and security agencies are actively working to maintain peace and order amidst these developments.
