Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered the immediate arrest of the former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, citing actions that have created tension and disturbed public peace in the state. This follows an incident where Bayero was allegedly smuggled into Kano city in an attempt to reclaim the palace, just two days after being deposed.
The announcement was made by Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson. According to the statement, the newly appointed Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, arrived at the palace early on Saturday, May 25, 2024, accompanied by Governor Yusuf, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State Assembly, and other top government officials. This move solidified Sanusi’s position as the new Emir following the abrogation of the Kano Emirates Council Law.
Governor Yusuf, acting as the chief security officer of the state, has directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest Aminu Ado Bayero immediately for actions deemed to disturb public peace and jeopardize the state’s relative tranquility. The governor’s directive underscores the administration’s commitment to maintaining order and addressing any attempts to undermine the new emirate structure established by recent legislative changes.
