Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has declared that the 27 members of the State House of Assembly, led by Rt Hon. Martin Amaewhule, no longer hold legal significance, asserting that they do not exist in the eyes of the law. Speaking during a courtesy visit from the Bayelsa State delegation, led by former Governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, Governor Fubara emphasized his efforts to resolve the political crisis in the state peacefully.

Governor Fubara expressed regret that despite his attempts to adhere to the conditions of a peace accord regarding the political crisis, the other party remained uncooperative. He clarified that his acceptance of the peace accord was to provide a soft landing for the opposing faction. However, he stressed that their continued defiance compelled him to make a statement regarding their status.

Highlighting his commitment to peace and development, Governor Fubara reiterated his role as a peacemaker and emphasized the need for political maturity and tolerance. He emphasized that his actions were guided by the desire to maintain peace and foster development in Rivers State.

Governor Fubara also acknowledged the support of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri in fostering a peaceful relationship between the two states. He expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown by the Bayelsa delegation and underscored the importance of unity and mutual respect in resolving conflicts.

In response, Senator Seriake Dickson commended Governor Fubara for his efforts to promote peace and stability in Rivers State. He emphasized the interconnectedness of both states and called for continued cooperation and solidarity to ensure peace and development in the region.

The meeting concluded with a message of peace, reconciliation, and political maturity, urging all stakeholders to prioritize the well-being of the people and work towards resolving conflicts amicably.
