President Bola Tinubu has expressed appreciation for the services rendered by the Jim Obazee-led team appointed nine months ago to investigate the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and related entities. In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu praised Jim Obazee for his dedication and professionalism in handling the complex national assignment.
With the submission of a final comprehensive report and the winding up of all investigative apparatuses, the investigation has been formally closed as of March 31, 2024. President Tinubu thanked Mr. Obazee for his commitment to duty and wished him success in his future endeavors.
The appointment of Jim Obazee as Special Investigator of the CBN and related entities was made by President Tinubu last July, in line with the administration’s commitment to fighting corruption and in accordance with constitutional provisions. Obazee was directed to report directly to the President and tasked with strengthening the probity of key Government Business Entities (GBEs), blocking leakages in the CBN and related GBEs, and providing a comprehensive report on public wealth held by corrupt individuals and establishments.
The President emphasized the importance of investigating the CBN and related entities with a competent team and collaborating with relevant security and anti-corruption agencies. Weekly briefings on progress were expected, and the Governor of the CBN was suspended from office with effect from June 9, 2023, as part of the directive attached to the appointment letter.
