The 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have issued a stern warning to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, threatening to resume the impeachment process if necessary to uphold the Constitution. Led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the lawmakers asserted their mandate from the people and their commitment to the oath of allegiance to the Constitution.

In a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the lawmakers accused Governor Fubara of misconduct and warned of potential impeachment if he does not amend his behavior. They expressed disappointment in the lack of change from the governor following earlier intervention by President Bola Tinubu.

The legislators criticized the recent remarks made by PDP chieftains, particularly Dr. Abiye Sekibo, accusing them of attempting to undermine the authority of the House. They alleged that the PDP group disparaged the House for aligning with the APC, the president’s political party.

Moreover, the lawmakers accused the PDP chieftains of attacking Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, who they claimed had supported both the president and the governor in Rivers State. They warned against disrespectful rhetoric towards the legislature and the FCT minister, emphasizing the need to maintain peace in the state.

Highlighting the withdrawal of the impeachment notice as a gesture of respect for the president’s office, the lawmakers expressed concern over Governor Fubara’s alleged disregard for state laws and the Constitution. They reiterated their commitment to upholding the law and fulfilling their duty, including impeachment if necessary.

In conclusion, the lawmakers asserted that no individual, including the governor, is above the law, signaling their readiness to take action if the situation demands it.
