President Tinubu Urges Religious Leaders to Foster Unity and Constructive Criticism

President Bola Tinubu has called upon religious leaders to refrain from disparaging the nation in their sermons and instead play a constructive role in shaping public opinion and fostering unity among citizens. Speaking during a Ramadan Iftar with traditional rulers and religious leaders at the State House, President Tinubu emphasized the crucial role of religious leaders in guiding the nation’s discourse and promoting harmony.

He urged religious leaders to offer constructive criticism of those in elective positions, emphasizing the importance of love for the nation and the need to refrain from condemning it. President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to overcoming Nigeria’s challenges and turning them into opportunities for prosperity.

Acknowledging the sacrifices made by security personnel and their families, especially in the face of recent tragedies, President Tinubu urged traditional and religious leaders to collaborate with the government in tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.

Reflecting on the challenges facing the nation, President Tinubu drew parallels with other developed nations’ historical struggles, emphasizing the importance of resilience and determination in overcoming adversity. He assured the leaders that with unity and resolve, Nigeria would emerge stronger from its current challenges.

President Tinubu also expressed gratitude for the birthday wishes extended to him, coinciding with Good Friday, and prayed for the safety and well-being of all present.

Various speakers at the event, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, the Ooni of Ife, and the Emir of Zazzau, commended President Tinubu’s leadership and pledged their support in addressing the nation’s challenges. The representatives of religious and traditional bodies reiterated their commitment to promoting peace, unity, and prosperity in Nigeria.

The General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) also commended President Tinubu for fostering a harmonious relationship between the state and the church and pledged continued support for his administration’s efforts to address security challenges.
