The Senate has taken a significant step by inaugurating an Ad-hoc Committee tasked with investigating the N30 trillion Ways and Means secured from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Inaugurating the 16-member ad-hoc Committee, led by Senator Isa Jibril, Senate President Godswill Akpabio stressed the importance of approaching the investigation with a sense of responsibility, patriotism, professionalism, and integrity. He emphasized the Senate’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

Akpabio urged the committee members to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of truth, emphasizing the need for impartiality, fairness, and adherence to strict protocols to ensure the security and integrity of gathered information. He underscored the importance of collaboration, cooperation, and dedication to the common good, urging the committee to set aside personal and partisan interests.

Furthermore, Akpabio highlighted the significance of engaging with relevant stakeholders, experts, and organizations to strengthen the credibility and comprehensiveness of the investigation’s findings and recommendations. He emphasized the importance of maintaining open lines of communication with the public to uphold trust and confidence in the committee’s work.

The Senate President reminded the committee members of the gravity of their task, urging them to approach it with seriousness, determination, and guided by principles of justice, fairness, and the common good. He expressed gratitude to the committee members for their dedication and commitment, offering his total support in achieving the objectives of the investigation.

Akpabio clarified that the committee’s establishment followed a report from Joint Committees on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions; Finance; National Planning; Agriculture; and Appropriations. The investigation includes scrutiny of ways and means, including the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, and holds great significance for the nation’s economic management.

The inauguration of the Ad-hoc Committee signifies the Senate’s commitment to ensuring transparency, integrity, and accountability in the management of national resources. With a focus on patriotism, professionalism, and the common good, the committee is poised to undertake a thorough investigation into the N30 trillion Ways and Means from the CBN, contributing to the nation’s economic governance.
