In a harrowing incident in Kaduna State, Nigeria, bandits stormed Government Secondary School Kuriga, located in the Chikun Local Government Area, and a nearby primary school, abducting a total of 280 pupils and teachers. Tragically, one member of the Kaduna state Vigilante Service (KADVS) lost his life during the raid.

The attack, which occurred at approximately 8 a.m. on Thursday, sent shockwaves through the community. Sani Abdullahi, a teacher at Government Secondary School Kuriga, revealed the grim details during a visit by Kaduna state governor, Senator Uba Sani, and government officials later that evening.

Abdullahi recounted the chaos that unfolded as bandits surrounded the school premises, forcing staff and students into the nearby bush. Amidst the confusion, 187 students from the secondary school and 125 pupils from the primary school were reported missing. However, hope flickered as 25 primary school pupils managed to escape and return home.

During his visit, Governor Uba Sani expressed deep sorrow over the incident, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of all abducted individuals. He pledged to establish a Police Station and a permanent military camp in the community to enhance security.

The governor assured the community of relentless efforts to rescue the abducted children, even offering to stay in Kuriga until the situation is resolved. He also revealed that he had briefed the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, about the incident, signaling a coordinated effort to deploy security forces.

Despite the anguish gripping the community, residents expressed gratitude to Governor Sani for his personal visit and reassurances during this challenging time.
