Alhaji Aminu Dantata, a renowned business mogul and former member of parliament during Nigeria’s first republic, has expressed support for the advocacy led by 60 members of the House of Representatives calling for Nigeria’s return to the parliamentary system of government. Dantata commended the lawmakers during a courtesy visit by some of them, led by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, at his residence in Kano.

Dantata highlighted the advantages of the parliamentary system, stating that it is not only better for the country but also cheaper, less cumbersome, and enhances stability. He emphasized the significant cost-saving benefits of the parliamentary system, particularly given the current economic challenges facing the nation.

Expressing hope for broader support within the National Assembly for the project, Dantata encouraged the lawmakers to continue their efforts and garner more backing from their colleagues.

In an interview with journalists after the visit, Kingsley Chinda reiterated the commitment of the sponsoring lawmakers to the proposed bill for Nigeria’s return to the parliamentary system. He emphasized that accountability could be better achieved under such a system, citing the parliamentary mechanisms for holding leaders accountable for issues like insecurity.

Chinda underscored the need to think innovatively and outside the box, advocating for the reintroduction of a parliamentary system of government to address Nigeria’s challenges effectively. He emphasized that such a move would be in the best interest of Nigerians and the nation as a whole.

Furthermore, Chinda expressed gratitude to Alhaji Aminu Dantata for his insightful advice and input, affirming that they would continue to draw from his wealth of experience as they pursue the parliamentary system advocacy.
