President Bola Tinubu bestowed the prestigious Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) award upon the entire Super Eagles team and officials in recognition of their exceptional performance at the 2023 Africa Nations Cup, where they secured the silver medal. This honor followed the team’s visit to the presidential villa, where they were received by President Tinubu.

In addition to the MON award, each member of the team was granted a plot of land by the federal government, with plans for them to also receive a flat, the location of which has yet to be announced.

President Tinubu commended the National Football team for their outstanding contribution to fostering unity within the country through their remarkable performance at the tournament. Despite finishing second, he urged the team to maintain their morale and camaraderie.

William Troost Ekong, the team’s vice-captain and most valuable player, expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s support while expressing a desire to have presented a trophy rather than silver medals.
