President Bola Tinubu, speaking at a book launch in Lagos, emphasized the need to regulate social media, describing it as a menace. Represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, Tinubu agreed with the sentiments shared by Miss Toyosi Akerele, a panellist at the event.

Tinubu highlighted the abuses of social media and stressed the importance of regulating it to address the dissemination of false information. However, in his prepared speech, he emphasized the significance of evidence-based discourse and data-driven decision-making in addressing society’s challenges.

He acknowledged the current trend of public discourse being driven by alternative facts and highlighted the need to return to a shared understanding of truth and reality. Tinubu commended Babatunde Raji Fashola for addressing this challenge in his book with scholarly rigour and patriotic fervour.

He expressed confidence that Fashola’s insights would enlighten and influence public discourse and decision-making, contributing to the progress of the nation. Gbajabiamila, speaking on behalf of Tinubu and the Nigerian people, thanked Fashola for his efforts and pledged to distribute copies of the book to colleagues and friends to benefit from its insights.
