The body of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has arrived in Nigeria. The plane carrying the remains touched down at approximately 3:39 pm on Friday. A statement from the ex-Governor’s spokesperson, Richard Olatunde, revealed that the body was transported from Germany, where Akeredolu passed away.

The reception of the body took place in Nigeria and was attended by Akeredolu’s wife, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, his children, and siblings led by Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the immediate younger brother. Notable figures, including Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun (represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbi Talabi), and a representative of Osun State Governor, Senator Demola Adeleke, were present to pay their respects.

The Chairman of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, House of Representatives member Hon. Gboyega Adefarati, and several members of the Ondo State Executive Council, led by the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, also joined in receiving the late Governor’s body.

The emotional moment was marked by the sorrow of family members, followers, friends, and associates as the body was lowered from the plane. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu passed away in Germany on December 26, 2023. The remains have been placed in the morgue, awaiting final burial arrangements, which will be announced by the family at a later date.

The late Governor’s contributions to Ondo State and Nigerian politics are remembered, and his passing is mourned by many.
