Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s determination to address the security challenges in the South East region. Speaking at the unveiling of the Peace in South East Project (PISE-P) in Bende, Abia State, Shettima highlighted President Tinubu’s concern about economic devastation in the region caused by non-state actors. He stated that the President is committed to deploying resources to eliminate falsehoods and propaganda affecting Nigeria’s unity.
Shettima noted that criminal activities in the South East do not represent the interests of Ndi-Igbo or Nigerians. He addressed the collaboration needed to tackle insecurity and assured the South East people that the Tinubu administration would fulfill its pledge to mitigate inherited crises.
The Vice President commended Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu for initiating the PISE-P, emphasizing the importance of peace and security for sustainable development. He expressed gratitude for the collaboration of stakeholders in addressing the intricate web of security challenges.
Hon. Kalu, in his speech, outlined the goals of PISE-P, aiming to promote reconciliation, address root causes of conflict, and empower communities for sustainable development in the South East.
Governor Hope Uzodimma and Governor Alex Otti also spoke at the event, declaring their commitment to peace and prosperity in the South East.
Dignitaries present included Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Gilbert Ibezim; Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; and National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
