In the wake of the unexpected death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Wednesday morning, December 27th, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has been sworn in as the new governor of Ondo State. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the governor’s office in Alagbaka, Akure, administered by the state’s chief judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola.

Among the attendees were the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, members of the assembly, the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, and the state chairman of the ruling party APC, Ade Adetimehin.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his condolences over Akeredolu’s untimely death, describing it as unfortunate. He pledged to continue with Akeredolu’s ongoing projects and policies. Aiyedatiwa emphasized that Akeredolu’s passing was a devastating shock to the people of the state and the entire nation.

In his address, Aiyedatiwa promised to prioritize the welfare of the people in all his decisions, stating, “I want to assure the people of Ondo State that under my watch, this administration shall continue to advance the welfare of the people.”

Others who spoke to the media praised Akeredolu for his contribution to the establishment of Amotekun, a regional security outfit that has significantly reduced criminal activities in the South West. They also called for political peace in the state.

The sudden transition of power occurred following Akeredolu’s demise, and Aiyedatiwa is expected to lead the state, upholding the projects and policies initiated by his predecessor.
