Tinubu’s Eight-Point Peace Plan for Rivers Crisis: Will It Bring Genuine Peace?

Musa Saidu, the District head of the northern traditional council in Rivers State and the chairman of the Arewa initiative for a peaceful co-existence in Southern Nigeria, has asserted that whatever agreement Governor Sim Fubara signed with President Tinubu in the villa was done under duress. In an interview with ARISE NEWS, Saidu expressed the belief that Governor Fubara was humiliated during the process but emphasized that Fubara would not surrender his mandate to anyone. Saidu questioned the legitimacy of the agreement, stating that the only people who could decide Fubara’s case were the people of Rivers State.

Legal practitioner Frank Tietie also condemned the peace agreement, calling it worthless and urging Rivers people not to give much attention to it. He argued that the president’s intervention lacked legal basis and claimed that the agreement was a way of getting Fubara to save face. Tietie suggested that the fear both parties had for the president was the driving force behind the agreement.
