The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, has expressed concern about Nigeria’s increasing debt profile, emphasizing that it poses a serious threat to the country’s economy.

Speaking at the Body of Attorneys-General Conference and Meeting of the General Council of the Bar in Abuja, Fagbemi highlighted the importance of government personnel at all levels acquiring relevant skills and training in agreement drafting.

He disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Justice has initiated a collaborative framework with specialist firms to enhance legal officers’ skills in drafting Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and other binding agreements.

Fagbemi urged the states to ensure the full implementation of financial autonomy for the judiciary, emphasizing the need to strengthen the capacities of the judiciary in terms of personnel and infrastructure, including the adoption of technologies for court operations and the implementation of a digital justice delivery system.
