Why Election Tribunal Affirmed Governor Fintiri’s Victory

The Adamawa State Governorship Election Tribunal, convened in Yola, the state’s capital, has rejected Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani’s petition from the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the reelection of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice Theodora Obi Uloho, in her ruling on Saturday, found the petition to be lacking in merit and substance. The tribunal determined that the petitioners did not substantiate their claims of Electoral Act 2022 violations. Binani had contested Fintiri’s election, alleging non-compliance with the Electoral Act, but the tribunal dismissed her petition, confirming Fintiri’s victory.

Governor Fintiri had received 430,861 votes in the overall election, while Binani had garnered 398,788 votes. Following the tribunal’s decision, Governor Fintiri characterized his win as a victory for truth, morality, and integrity over falsehood and deception.

He praised the judiciary for its boldness and integrity. In his statewide address, the governor highlighted that the verdict marked the conclusion of the initial phase of legal proceedings and reaffirmed his dedication to improving the state and serving its citizens. He pledged to remain undistracted in fulfilling his mandate to provide good governance to the people of Adamawa State.
