Indications Suggest Ganduje Might Become APC National Chairman

Indications suggest that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is likely to endorse Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State, as the national chairman on Thursday. Additionally, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the spokesperson for the ninth Senate, may be announced as the acting National Secretary.

The NEC meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday, and the party’s leadership is expected to make decisions during the meeting. Banners of the immediate-past APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, have been replaced with congratulatory billboards featuring Ganduje’s image at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

Although the agenda for the meetings has not been publicly disclosed, a reliable source within the Presidency stated that the meetings would address the ongoing crisis within the party’s leadership. The source also mentioned that Ganduje and Basiru are the preferred choices of the APC governors and President Bola Tinubu.

Regarding the decision to allow the National Executive Committee to ratify the incoming leaders instead of holding a convention, the source explained that the NEC has the ultimate decision-making authority. If Ganduje is confirmed as the acting chairman, there may be no need for another convention. However, for other vacant positions, such as Welfare Officer, Deputy National Publicity Secretary, and Vice Chairman for North-West, left by Lukman, it is expected that the NWC (National Working Committee) will be given the power to fill them to avoid budgeting for another mini-convention.
