How DSS Fought Prison Officials to Re-arrest Emefiele after Court Granted Him Bail

A highly dramatic scene unfolded at the premises of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, as operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Correctional Centre (NCC) engaged in a fierce dispute over the custody of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Earlier on Tuesday, the High Court had granted Emefiele bail in the amount of N20 million, along with one surety who could provide the same sum. The charges against him were related to the “illegal possession of firearms.”

The presiding judge, Nicholas Oweibo, ordered that Emefiele be remanded at the correctional centre until he fulfills the conditions of his bail. However, the DSS operatives were adamant about taking Emefiele into their custody.

This led to heated arguments and an intense physical altercation between personnel from both the DSS and NCC on the court premises. The situation became highly dramatic as they vied for control over Emefiele’s custody.
