The Deputy National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nze Duru, confirmed on Monday that the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has resigned. However, Duru stated that he cannot confirm whether the National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has also resigned.

Duru made this announcement during a press briefing in his office, stating that as per the party’s constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North, Abubakar Kyari, will assume the role of acting national chairman.

He said, “I can confirm that the chairman of the party has stepped down, and meetings are currently underway.” Duru emphasized that he expected Omisore to resign for the benefit of the party. While he could not confirm Adamu’s attendance at the meeting, Duru highlighted that the transition process was ongoing.

Regarding Omisore’s resignation, Duru remarked, “I do not have information about the secretary’s resignation. However, it is expected that he should resign, considering his experience as a seasoned politician who has operated at the highest level. I believe he will always act in the party’s best interest.”

Duru assured Nigerians that the APC is a robust party with a solid foundation, credible systems, and competent leadership to navigate the party’s next phase. He stated that there was no anticipation of a caretaker committee, and meetings were taking place among various party caucuses and leadership. According to the party’s constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North, will assume the position of chairman in an acting capacity. Additionally, the office of the party secretary will transition to the other faction.

In the meantime, members of the National Working Committee (NWC) have gathered at the party’s national secretariat for the scheduled NWC meeting. Some of the NWC members present include the National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Arugungu Duru; Disability Leader, Tolu Bankole; Deputy National Chairman, South, Emma Eneukwu; National Vice-Chairman, North-east, Salihu Mustapha; National Vice-Chairman, North-west, Dr. Salihu Lukman; and Omisore, who arrived at the secretariat at precisely 11:20 a.m.
