On Thursday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will travel to Paris, France, to participate in a significant international event. World leaders will convene to review and sign a New Global Financial Pact, which prioritizes support and investment for vulnerable countries facing the devastating impacts of climate change, energy crisis, and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This overseas trip will be President Tinubu’s first since assuming office on May 29, 2023. The two-day summit, scheduled for June 22 to 23, aims to explore opportunities for restoring fiscal stability in countries with short-term financial challenges, particularly those heavily indebted. It will also focus on mobilizing innovative financing for nations susceptible to climate change, promoting development in low-income countries, and encouraging investment in environmentally friendly infrastructure for energy transition in emerging and developing economies.
President Tinubu, alongside other global leaders, multilateral institutions, financial experts, and economists, will adopt a comprehensive approach to economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and address the growing issues of poverty. The summit aims to provide access to finance and investment that fosters inclusive growth.
Hosted by President Emmanuel Macron of France, the summit will take place at Palais Brongniart. President Tinubu will be accompanied by members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council and senior government officials. His return to Abuja is expected on Saturday.
