How President Tinubu Suspended EFCC Chairman Over Significant Allegations of Abuse of Office

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has been suspended by President Bola Tinubu. The suspension, as announced in a statement by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), is intended to facilitate a thorough investigation into Bawa’s conduct while in office.

The decision to suspend Bawa was made due to significant allegations of abuse of office against him. The statement further directs Bawa to hand over his responsibilities to Abdulkarim Chukkol, the Director of Operations in the commission.

In the statement, it is stated that “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of Mr AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.”

The statement also emphasizes that Bawa must promptly transfer the responsibilities of his office to the director of operations, who will assume the role of overseeing the affairs of the chairman of the commission until the investigation concludes.
