Tajudeen Abbas Becomes The Speaker of the House of Representatives

Tajudeen Abbas, the representative for Zaria constituency in Kaduna, has been chosen as the speaker of the house of representatives through an election. Benjamin Kalu from Abia state has been declared as the deputy speaker. Kalu’s nomination by Babajimi Benson, a lawmaker from Lagos, was unopposed and was seconded by Waziri Ibrahim from Yobe.

In the election held on Tuesday, Abbas emerged as the clear winner, defeating Idris Wase and Sani Jaji by a significant margin. Abbas secured 353 votes, while Wase and Jaji each received three votes.

At 59 years old, Abbas was first elected to the House of representatives in 2011 under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) party. He hails from the Zazzau emirate and holds the traditional title of Iyan Zazzau.

Before entering politics in 2010, Abbas worked as a primary school teacher, a lecturer at a polytechnic, and a university lecturer. He holds a master’s degree and a PhD in business administration.
