The inspector general of police, service commanders, and heads of security agencies are participating in their first meeting with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Aso Rock, Abuja.

The meeting centred on his approach to addressing insecurity, and he and the leaders of the security and intelligence agencies discussed national security challenges.

During the two-hour discussion, the President emphasised the importance of cooperation, prompt reporting, and coordinated efforts among the security services, according to National Security Advisor Babagana Munguno.

The President also emphasised his commitment to the welfare and support of military personnel and other combatants in the theatre of conflict.

During his inaugural address on Monday, he declared, “We will defend the nation against terrorism and all forms of criminality that imperil the peace and stability of our nation and our subregion.

“In order to effectively combat this threat, we will reform our security doctrine and architecture.

“We will invest more in our security personnel, which entails more than a simple increase in headcount. We will improve training, apparatus, compensation, and firepower.”

In attendance at the meeting are Chief of Defence Staff Lucky Irabor, Chief of the Army Staff Farouk Yahaya, Chief of the Air Force Awwal Gambo, and Chief of the Navy Isiaka Amoa.

Others include Yusuf Bichi, the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), and Ahmed Abubakar and Usman Baba, the Directors-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
