The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended and detained former power minister Sale Mamman in connection with an alleged N22 billion fraud.
Mamman, who served as a minister under President Muhammadu Buhari from 2019 to 2021, was apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday and is being held at the headquarters of the anti-corruption agency in Abuja, according to sources familiar with the situation who spoke with TheCable.
Investigations into alleged corruption in the execution of certain power projects led to the arrest.
Mamman is accused of conspiring with ministry employees in command of the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects to divert and divide N22 billion among themselves.
The investigations uncovered properties in Nigeria and abroad allegedly associated with the perpetrators, as well as millions of naira and dollars.
President Muhammadu Buhari restructured his cabinet on September 1, 2021, replacing Mamman and Sabo Nanono, the minister of agriculture and rural development.
