Why Twitter Removed ‘blue tick’ for Non-subscribers

Twitter has announced that non-subscribers to its ‘blue tick’ will no longer be able to run advertisements on the platform.

The announcement comes a day after Twitter removed numerous blue checkmarks.

Celebrities and politicians including Cristiano Ronaldo, Davido, Wizkid, Tony Elumelu, Olamide, Peter Obi, Tinubu, and Atiku had their verifications removed.

While Musk deactivates the verifications of those who did not subscribe to the blue mark, a number of footballers have also deactivated their accounts.

“Beginning April 21, your Twitter account must be verified or subscribe to Twitter Blue or Verified Organisations in order to continue running advertisements. Business accounts spending over $1000 per month have gold checks or will shortly, and they will continue to have uninterrupted access to advertising at this time.

This change aligns with Twitter’s larger verification strategy, which aims to elevate the quality of content on Twitter and improve the user and advertiser experience. This strategy also contributes to our ongoing efforts to reduce fake accounts and malware. By subscribing to either of these services, Twitter verifies that you are a genuine person or business.

“Among other enhancements, you’ll have a more visible organic presence and access to a wider variety of creation tools. A notice sent to Twitter advertisers with the subject line ‘Building a better Twitter through verification’ stated, ‘We’re eager for you to get started and benefit from a superior Twitter experience’.
