2023 Election Result: Nigerians Disgruntled with the Way Collation was Handled -Bishop Kukah

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has observed that Nigerians are collectively dissatisfied with the results of the general election of 2023, and it is nearly impossible to persuade them that justice can be found.

This is stated in a statement released by the Catholic Bishop on Sunday, in which he compared Nigerians to mourning men and women returning from a memorial.

The religious leader denounced the intimidation, repression, and violence that followed the elections, stating that it cannot be accepted as the new path to power.

He lamented that every part of the country looks forlorn, disconsolate, lugubrious, and despondent today, alleging that our nation’s “swagger” has disappeared.

As a result, he observed that even the victorious are playing a subdued trumpet.

Nonetheless, he yelled that violence and bloodshed are inexcusable and should not be regarded as the normal means to attain authority.

In the holy texts, he compared the blood of the murdered, which continues to cry out to heaven for justice, to that of Abel.

The bishop sympathised with the disgruntled citizens and urged them not to give up in their pursuit of justice, but instead to align their aspirations with the celebration of Easter, emphasising that Nigerians should not allow their anger to imprison them.

He also urged Nigerians not to express their wrath through violence, but rather to channel it into a desire for justice.

Kukah reiterated that the urgent mission is to restore the dignity of the Nigerian nation and its people, noting that Nigerians have been beaten by the rain and sun of injustice for far too long.
