FG to Sink N15.3bn on ICT Devices for Census

The federal executive council (FEC) has allocated N15,3 billion for the supply and installation of information and communication technology (ICT) equipment for the 2023 census.

Recent government announcements indicate that the population and housing census will begin on May 3.

At the conclusion of the FEC meeting on Wednesday, presidential spokeswoman Garba Shehu told journalists that the council had authorised a N10.9 billion contract for IT components of the 2023 census.

Shehu revealed that an N4.4 billion contract was also accepted for the development of mobile device management systems for the census.

“Among the memos approved today was the contract for the procurement and installation of information and communication technology (ICT) components for the 2023 population census,” the presidential assistant explained.

“This is to be sent to the National Population Commission” (NPC). It is for census purposes. The contract for the ICT component was granted for roughly N10.9 billion.

“Another contract awarded to the National Population Commission was for the development and implementation of a mobile device management system for the personal digital assistant devices that would be utilised in the 2023 population census.

This amounts to approximately N4.4 billion.

The presidential spokesperson added that the council authorised a N3.3 billion contract for the development of infrastructure at the new training college of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He revealed that N1 billion had also been authorised for the purchase of 19 cars by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
