The National Chairperson of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, has resigned.

In a letter to the National Secretary of the party, Alkali said that he was resigning as the party’s National Chairman to make place for new leadership that could build upon and improve upon his modest accomplishments.

In a letter dated March 31, 2023, Alkali copied the National Leader of the party and Presidential candidate of the NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; the Chairman of the NNPP Board of Trustees, Elder Chief Boniface Aniebonam; and the Secretary of the NNPP Board of Trustees, Engr Buba Galadima.

The letter titled “Letter of resigning from the position of National Chairman, New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP” stated, “I am glad to inform you that I have resigned from my position as National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) effective today, March 31, 2023.

“After closely observing the events preceding, during, and following the recent General Elections held on 25th February and 18th March 2023, I am of the humble opinion that our party, the NNPP, has a bright future and the potential to become the leading political force capable of winning the Presidential and all other elections in 2027.

“To accomplish this, we must plan and think forward. And the time has arrived. Our great party, the New Nigerian People’s Party, will require major and fundamental structural and systemic changes and reorganisation at all levels in order to strengthen its base, improve its operational capabilities, and generally increase its competitive advantage over the other 17 political parties on the INEC nominal roll.

“Because, as a party, we all believe in and desire to improve Nigeria under the shrewd leadership of our leader, His Excellency, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, I think that no sacrifice is too great from any of us.

“I am persuaded that I must initiate this transition. This is precisely why I have decided, with a strong sense of responsibility, to step down from the position of National Chairman of our party in order to make place for new leadership to build upon and improve upon our modest achievements. I wish I had accomplished more.

“By this letter, I also wish to inform our National Leader and Presidential Candidate, His Excellency, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), and our entire members nationwide that I am still and will continue to be a bona fide member of our party, and that I pledge to serve and offer support to our Party at all levels to ensure its continued progress and advancement.

“I would also like to express my gratitude to our National Leader, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who in the last three years has provided me with unique and rare opportunities to serve in various capacities during the formation of The National Movement (TNM) and after the merger of TNM and the old NNPP. I cannot take this advantage for granted.

“Therefore, I would like to extend my special and sincere gratitude to our National Leader, His Excellency Sen Engr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Ph. D. FNSE, our amiable Vice Presidential Candidate Bishop Isaac Idahosa, our elder and Chairman Board of Trustees (BOT) Chief Boniface Aniebonam, my Brother the Secretary of BOT, Elder Buba Galadima, members of the National Working Committee, and all our members nationwi (NNPP). God alone deserves all honour and glory, as He is the one who makes everything possible.

“I Pray, May God Bless and Thank You All With His Many Blessings and Mercies. Viva la New Nigeria People’s Party! Long Live The Nigerian Federal Republic!”
