According to the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), the Department of State Services (DSS) is inflaming the political climate by publishing comments but not making arrests.
This remark was made by the NGF in response to a statement given by the secret police.
Wednesday, the DSS verified a scheme by “important stakeholders” to form an interim government and prevent the inauguration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president.
In a communique issued on Friday by the forum’s chairman and governor of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, the governors demanded that the DSS immediately arrest and prosecute all those responsible for the scheme.
“The forum deliberated at length on the purported scheme by unscrupulous elements to install an interim government, as detailed in a recent announcement by the DSS,” stated the bulletin.
“Governors decried in the clearest possible terms any unlawful means of regime change and vowed to continue defending Nigeria’s democracy as elected leaders.
“Furthermore, the forum considers that issuing remarks without making arrests is tantamount to inflaming the political climate and increasing needless tension in the nation.
The forum stated that it would provide an orientation course for newly-elected governors.
The 14th to 17th of May 2023 conference will bring together freshly elected, re-elected, and former governors, national and international leaders, industry titans, and development partners.
According to the statement, the purpose of the event is to “improve the capacity of governors to construct, organise, manage, and define agenda/priorities utilising best practises while leveraging the tools of their trade – people, processes, and programmes – for stronger and more effective governance.”
