Peter Mbah Wins Enugu state

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has proclaimed Peter Mbah, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, the winner of the governorship race in Enugu state.

Wednesday night, Maduebibisi Ofo-Iwe, the returning officer in Enugu, revealed that Mbah received 160,895 votes to win the election.

Ofo-Iwe declared, “Mbah Peter Ndubuisi of the Peoples Democratic Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is proclaimed the winner and returned elected.”

Ofo-Iwe reported that Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party (LP) came in second with 157,552 votes, while Frank Nweke II of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) received 17,983 votes.

Uche Nnaji received 14,574 votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mbah will succeed current governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, whose two mandates of eight years expire on May 29.

INEC postponed the collation of results in the Nsukka and Nkanu East Local Government Areas of Enugu on Monday in order to conduct a review of the results from the two LGAs.

The decision of the election commission provoked protests in the state as political party supporters demanded the resumption of the vote tallying procedure.
