Alhaji Dauda Lawal Dare, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for governor in the state of Zamfara, defeated incumbent governor Bello Mohammed Matawalla on Saturday.

Professor Kasimu Shehu, the returning officer for the election, said that Dare received 377,726 votes to defeat Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle, who received 311 998 votes.

Matawalle is the first of eleven governors in the 2023 election to lose reelection.

The election between incumbent Ahmadu Fintiri and APC candidate Aisha Binani in Adamawa State has been declared inconclusive.
