Mai Mala Buni and Inuwa Yahaya Re-elected

The re-election of Mai Mala Buni and Inuwa Yahaya as governors of Yobe and Gombe, respectively.

Umaru Pate, the INEC returning officer for Yobe state, named Buni of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the governorship election on Sunday while reading the results at the INEC collation centre. Buni received 317,113 votes.

With 124,259 votes, Sherif Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) placed second.

Pate stated, “Buni Mai Mala of the APC, having met the conditions of the law, is declared the winner of the election and returns to office.”

Pate noted that Garba Umar of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) came in third place with 14,246 votes, and that Arabi Mohammed of the Action Alliance (AA) received 3,050 votes.

In the meantime, in Gombe, the APC’s Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya was named the victor of the governorship race.

INEC’s returning officer for Gombe, Maimuna Waziri, announced that Yahaya received 342 821 votes, while Jibrin Barde of the PDP received 233 131 votes.

Khamisu Mailantarki of the NNPP finished in a distant third place with 19,861 votes, while Keftin Amuga of the Labour Party (LP) received 1,754 votes.

Yahaya won in nine of the state’s eleven LGAs.
