The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, asserts that someone lacking the necessary experience in governance and leadership cannot manage the state’s economy.
Wednesday, he stated this during an interview with Nigeria Info FM.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of the state’s economy to the nation and reiterated that he is the best qualified candidate, saying that he has both private and public sector expertise to advance the state.
What have you personally accomplished, what is your pedigree, and what expertise do you bring to the table? What level of knowledge do you possess that is required for this job? What are your prior positions? he asked.
He emphasised that running the sixth largest economy cannot be a trial run, emphasising that it is comparable to driving the largest black metropolis in the world; it is not emotion-driven.
Babajide Sanwo -Olu mentioned one of his fellow candidates, Gbadebo Rhodes -Vivour, who is reported to be the youngest candidate in this election; he is a Lagosian and Nigerian who is 40 years old.
While attempting to compare his accomplishments at age 40 to those of his Labour Party counterpart, he stated that at age 40, he left the banking industry as a general manager, heading investment banking; he had been in that sector for 15 years; prior to that, he had developed expertise and experience in highly structured investment banking.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised that he served as treasurer for three banks before entering the public sector. By age 40, he had spent approximately four years in the public sector as Commissioner of Economic Planning and advisor to a serving governor.
Sanwo-Olu will compete against Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) and Abdul-Azeez Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the seat of governor on March 18.
