Twelve senior attorneys of Nigeria (SANs) have been recruited by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to defend Bola Tinubu’s victory before the presidential election petition tribunal.

The team is chaired by Lateef Fagbemi and includes the party’s national legal counsel, Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq.

Tuesday marked the debut of the party’s legal team roster.

Additional members are Sam Ologunorisa, Rotimi Oguneso, Olabisi Soyebo, Gboyega Oyewole, Muritala Abdulrasheed, Aliyu Omeiza Saiki, Tajudeen Oladoja, Pius Akubo, Oluseye Opasanya, Suraju Saida, and Kazeem Adeniyi.

The statement continues, “We are certain that the legal team has the necessary competence and experience to guarantee a favorable outcome for the APC in the presidential election petition issues.”

“We urge party members to support the team’s efforts to protect the people’s will and mandate.

Throughout the legal process, we also urge all parties to conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism and respect for the rule of law.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Tinubu the winner of the presidential election held on February 25 on March 1.

Yet, the country’s major opposition parties rejected the results due to claimed irregularities and violations of the electoral statute.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) have challenged Tinubu’s victory before the presidential election tribunal.

On March 3, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the LP obtained court permission to access all sensitive materials used by INEC to conduct the election.
