Lionel Messi, a striker for Argentina and Paris Saint-Germain, has been chosen the best male player of 2022 by Fifa.

The 35-year-old won the award over French forwards Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema.

BBC stated that Messi led Argentina to World Cup victory in Qatar and scored 27 goals in 49 games for club and country in 2021-22.

Alexia Putellas of Barcelona was chosen women’s player of the year.

Messi, who received the prize for a second time, exclaimed, “It’s incredible. It is an honor to be here and to receive this award after such a remarkable year. If not for my teammates, I would not be present.

“I attained the goal I had longed for for so long. I’ve had the good fortune to accomplish this, as very few people can.”

Lionel Scaloni, who led Argentina to their third World Cup triumph, was crowned coach of the year at an event in Paris.

Scaloni defeated Pep Guardiola, who led Manchester City to their sixth Premier League trophy, and Carlo Ancelotti, who led Real Madrid to the Champions League title.

England manager Sarina Wiegman was chosen women’s coach of the year after guiding the Lionesses to their first major title, European Championship victory on home soil last year.

Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa and Argentina was named the best men’s goalkeeper, while Mary Earps of England received the women’s prize.

Martinez, 30, contributed to his nation’s World Cup success by saving four penalties, including the decisive penalty shootout victory over France.

Earps, who plays for Manchester United in the Women’s Super League, started all six of England’s matches in the 2022 European Championship, which they won.

Marcin Oleksy of Polish club Warta Poznan scored the finest goal of the year to win the Fifa Puskas trophy. With the aid of his crutches, he fired a magnificent overhead volley against Stal Rzeszow into the back of the net.
