Speaker of the house of representatives Femi Gbajabiamila has been reelected for a sixth term.

In the Surulere 1 federal constituency election, Gbajabiamila, who has served for 20 years in the lower house of the national legislature, defeated Bosun Jeje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Gbajabiamila defeated the PDP candidate, who received 5,121 votes, with 19,717 votes.

Gbajabiamila stated, following his election victory on Saturday, that he will not disappoint the constituents who voted for him again.

am indebted to the Surulere community for their amazing support. I do not take your assistance for granted, remarked the speaker.

As your representative for the past two decades, I have always looked out for your best interests. I am pleased to have you as constituents. I appreciate the enormous support of our numerous supporters, our Surulere APC leaders, party members, CDAs, and locals.

“This victory is shared with others. This is a triumph for democracy. This sixth mandate granted to me by Surulere has made history, which will certainly motivate me to accomplish more for you.”

Gbajabiamila was elected to the house of representatives for the first time in 2003 and had previously won five consecutive elections.

Before being elected as speaker in 2019, the speaker served as minority whip, minority leader, opposition leader, and majority leader.
