Governor of Benue state Samuel Ortom voted for Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi (LP).

Ortom, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had previously backed Obi over Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential nominee.

He is also a member of a group of five PDP governors at odds with the party’s national leadership.

Saturday, the governor of the state voted for Obi at his polling place in Tse-Ortom, Mzondu ward, Guma LGA.

Ortom, who is vying for the Benue north-west senatorial seat, had previously stated that he was willing to sacrifice his own campaign for the success of the LP candidate.

“For me, it is not even that I am running for office. Indeed, the form was purchased for me by the citizens of the state of Benue. “I’ve gone around, and they’ve agreed to vote for me,” he stated.

“But, if I must sacrifice my senatorial ambitions in order for Peter Obi to win, then be it. I am aware that if any group of people in this globe are connected, it is the Igbo. This is your chance to proclaim that an Igbo man from the Southeast is the president.”
